The 2014 Sustainability Leaders Report was released this week, naming Unilever as the top company for corporate sustainability, followed by Patagonia and Interface.
The report signals a shift in perceptions of sustainability leadership, which has evolved across three eras including the "Do No Harm" era (in which large industrial companies like BP focused on minimizing negative impacts), the "Mainstreaming" era (in which consumer-facing companies like Interface sought to transform their products, services and value chains), and the current "Extension" era (in which large companies like Unilever focus on advocacy and systemic change).
